R22 refrigerant, also known as HCFC-22, is the most commonly used refrigerant in residential and commercial air conditioning, as well as some very large centrifugal chillers for air conditioning and industrial processes. It has been increasingly used in refrigeration since CFCs were phased out – both as a pure refrigerant and in blends. R-22 is no longer permitted for use in new equipment, but available products can continue to be used for servicing existing systems.
